Rhode Island allows same-day voter registration for presidential elections only. If you miss the voter registration deadline, you can register to vote on Election Day but you will only be able to vote for President and Vice President.

Ballot placement lottery for primary and general election. The RI Department of State Elections Division will conduct a lottery to determine ballot placement for unendorsed federal and state party candidates on primary ballots. The lottery will be held at 5 p.m. at the RI Department of State Elections Division (148 W. River Street, Providence, RI).

Rhode Island implemented online voter registration in 2016. Eligible Rhode Islanders may use the system to easily register to vote or update their voter information and their party affiliation. A valid Rhode Island Driver’s License or State ID number is required to use the system.
