Kosovo looked set for a period of political uncertainty on Monday as the major political parties ruled out coalition building after an election in which the ruling party fell short of an outright majority.

Albin Kurti, leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement and current Prime Minister of Kosovo, has declared the victory of his party and the coalition with Guxo and Alternativa in the parliamentary elections held last Sunday.

Kosovo's ruling Vetevendosje party is on track to come first in a parliamentary election on Sunday, but it will need to negotiate a coalition with other parties to form a government, exit polls and party vote count showed.

Vetevendosje won 41.3% of votes with 88% of ballots counted, official results from the election commission showed. The opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo was second with 21.8% and the Democratic League of Kosovo party had 17.8%.

According to exit polls, the Self-Determination Party, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, secured the largest share of votes in Kosovo's parliamentary elections held on Sunday, securing around 40%. The media released these results after the polling stations closed.

Vetevendosje won 41.3% of votes with 88% of ballots counted, down from more than 50% in the 2021 poll that brought a Vetevendosje-led coalition to power, results from the election commission showed. The opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo was second with 21.8% and the Democratic League of Kosovo party had 17.8%.
