Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy never proposed a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.It was the Kremlin leader who suggested direct talks in Istanbul to avoid a ceasefire, stated Zelenskyy during a press conference.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims the delegation Russia sent to peace talks in Turkey shows the country is not serious about a ceasefire. The meeting is the first direct negotiations between the two countries in more than three years.

Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv he will be in Ankara on Thursday to conduct the negotiations. He plans to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the two will wait for Putin to arrive, he said. Zelenskyy said if Putin chooses Istanbul to hold the meeting, then both leaders will travel there.

Russian troops have been on a continuous offensive across all front-line directions for several months. The greatest concentration of their efforts is in the Sumy region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference.
