Marie's confirmation that she is not a Canadian citizen continues as two prestigious arts honors have been rescinded.

Marie, whose purported indigenous lineage has been called into question, says she has returned her Order of Canada "with a good heart" and restated that she never claimed to be Canadian. In her first comment since she was stripped of the award in February,

Buffy Sainte-Marie says she has returned her Order of Canada “with a good heart” and reasserts that she never lied about her identity.

It was very lovely to host the medals for awhile, but I return them with a good heart,” the singer wrote in a statement.

Canada's two most prestigious musical honors, the Juno and Polaris Awards, have rescinded singer-songwriter Buffy Saint-Marie's past awards due to her recent acknowledgement that she is not a Canadian citizen,

The Oscar winner is also set to lose two Polaris music prizes after a 2023 CBC program claimed the Sainte-Marie had been fraudulently posing as Native.
