Hurricane Henriette rapidly strengthened to Category 1 status Sunday, packing 80 mph winds as it passes north of Hawaii with no direct threat to the islands.

H ONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hurricane Henriette is maintaining its strength as a Category 1 system as it moves rapidly to the northwest, away from the islands. In data valid at 11 a.m. Monday, Henriette had maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Forecasters say Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean as Hurricane Henriette is strengthening in the Pacific Ocean.
