Aloha United Way, in partnership with the Bank of Hawaii Foundation, released the 2024 ALICE in Hawaii report Thursday, urging policy action to address rising living costs, housing instability and economic challenges especially faced by the state’s ALICE — asset-limited,

"This refers to those who make just enough money to not receive government assistance, but not quite enough to cover the bare necessities, in essence, living paycheck to paycheck."

The report showed one in three Hawaii households considered moving away over the past year. ALICE individuals are likely to be women or have children. Roughly 58% of Native Hawaiians and 52% of Filipinos are in the ALICE category. Many feel positive strides are being made.
