Judge Beverly J. Cannone issued a brief ruling in Norfolk Superior Court that said she’ll permit meteorologist Robert Gilman to testify “as to weather conditions” in the predawn hours of Jan. 29, 2022.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit has denied Karen Read's federal appeal, meaning her retrial can move ahead as scheduled. Read's attorneys had appealed to the court earlier this month to try and get two of three charges against her thrown out.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the judge in Karen Read's first murder trial was correct to declare a mistrial.
