Earlier this week, Saturn gained a whopping 128 new official moons, as the International Astronomical Union recognised discoveries from a team of astronomers led by Edward Ashton at the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. An international team of astronomers working with the Canada France Hawaii Telescope have discovered a whopping 128 more moons orbiting Saturn. The Minor Planet Center confirmed the discoveries on March 11.

This multitude of small, not very round objects are thought to be fragments of larger moons that broke apart in collisions earlier in our solar system's history. There is no lower limit of size in the astronomical definition of a moon,
