George Russell picked up where he left off by finishing fastest in first practice for the Austrian Grand Prix. Russell took his first win of the season last time out in Canada and the Mercedes driver raised hope of a second victory in as many races by topping the time charts at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

Mercedes' George Russell kept Max Verstappen off the top of the timesheets with the fastest lap in first Friday practice for the Austrian Grand Prix while Ireland's Alex Dunne made an impressive F1 debut with McLaren.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri was third fastest, ahead of an impressive performance from Irishman Alex Dunne in the other McLaren. Dunne, leading the Formula 2 championship this season, is a member of the McLaren young driver programme and was having his first outing at a grand prix in Lando Norris' car.
