The rights to the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck religious comedy were owned by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, making it almost impossible to watch legally for the past few years

The Highlands -bred filmmaker, who wrote and directed the 1999 movie, did not own the rights to the movie. He had tried three times over the years to buy the rights to “Dogma” from disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein — first offering $250,000, then $500,000, then $1 million — but they refused.

Smith first teased the tour last October when Dogma was purchased by a new rightsholder, who reached out to the director and asked if he would be interested in touring the movie and bringing it back to theaters.
