Houston lost the first game against the A's on a walk-off homer by Nick Kurtz off Bryan Abreu. The Astros lost again as Kurtz beat Josh Hader.

Nick Kurtz hit a two-run homer off closer Josh Hader in the 10th inning to give the Athletics a 6-4 victory over the Houston Astros on Thursday night. Willie McIver launched his first major league homer and drove in two runs for the Athletics.

Bryan Abreu came on to pitch the eighth for the Astros. Nick Kurtz walked to start the inning. Luis Urías singled, moving Kurtz to third. JJ Bleday hit for MacIver, setting up a left-right matchup for Bleday with no outs. Bleday struck out swinging. Denzel Clarke also struck out swinging. Unfortunately, Butler grounded out to end the inning.
